Single Subject Credential
Biola’s California Single Subject Preliminary Teaching Credential authorizes you to teach art, English, mathematics, music, physical education, social science, science or Spanish. With this credential, you are usually offered employment in a middle school or high school classroom setting. This credential also includes an authorization to teach English language learners in your classroom.
The Single Subject Credential is primarily appropriate for middle school and high school teachers, but can sometimes be appropriate for elementary school teachers. As you develop a foundation in lesson planning, classroom technology, psychology and reading, you will have opportunities to observe and participate firsthand in the methods used by cooperating teachers during fieldwork placements. After completion of coursework and the associated requirements, you will be formally recommended for their California Preliminary Single Subject Teaching Credential. You can also receive your while earning your California preliminary teaching credential by meeting additional requirements.
You can either pursue this program as a standalone program at the graduate level, or start the program at the undergraduate level through a major in your selected subject area. The teacher preparation coursework can be taken in conjunction with the major requirements. Our biblically integrated program includes the following elements:

国产偷拍视频You can begin coursework toward the Single Subject Teaching Credential through your major. If you wish to teach at the secondary level, you should choose the major in your selected subject area, as this program requires demonstration of subject matter competency.
Students can apply to the credential program during LEDU 301: Introduction to Teaching, which should be taken during the first semester of your sophomore year. Once accepted into the credential program, you will take courses in sequence.
Teacher Preparation and Pedagogy Coursework
All teacher preparation and pedagogy coursework must be completed with a grade of "B-" or higher with an overall 3.0 GPA.
You are required to fulfill fieldwork hours for the courses below. Biola will arrange your placements with partnering districts.
Student Teaching is the final course of the program. The Single Subject Credential requires a placement at a high school or middle school. You will be assigned two master teachers, with two teaching periods and one preparation period spent with each teacher. Biola University supervisors mentor student teachers by making regular site visitations, and student teachers attend a weekly course.
You have the opportunity to student teach overseas in a variety of countries in accredited K–12 international and private schools. An overseas assignment can count as one of the two student teaching placements. The other must be completed at a California public school.
